Custom Travel Itineraries Focused on Art and Architecture
Curated itineraries, guided journeys and art history lectures for travelers who want to understand what they are seeing, and why it matters.
WELCOME
An art historian’s eye for your journey
I’m Karyn Dempsey, an art historian and educator. For more than two decades I have taught the humanities and led travelers through Europe’s great cities, from the Uffizi to the Louvre, the Baroque churches of Rome to the quiet chapels most visitors walk past.
Dempsey Cultural Travel brings that experience to your own journey. Every itinerary is designed around the art, architecture and history that matter to you, so your time abroad is spent on the extraordinary rather than the obvious.
WAYS TO TRAVEL WITH ME
Thoughtfully composed, from first idea to final day
Itinerary Design
A private itinerary composed around your interests, with museums sequenced thoughtfully, hotels chosen across neighborhoods and price points, and restaurants I have personally selected.
Guided Journeys
Small-group travel through Europe’s cultural capitals, with context and conversation at every stop.
Lectures
Art history lectures for private groups, travel clubs and lifelong learners, spanning the Renaissance and Baroque masters through the movements that shaped modern art.
Three Steps to a Journey worth remembering.
HOW IT WORKS
01
You begin with a short questionnaire about your destinations, travel dates, budget, and interests, whether that’s Renaissance painting, Gothic cathedrals, or modern design. We then meet by video to talk through your pace, travel style, and the experiences that matter most to you.
Consultation
02
I build your itinerary day by day, balancing major museums with lesser-known sites, timed to avoid crowds and fatigue. For each city you’ll receive three hotel options in different neighborhoods and price ranges, restaurants I’ve personally selected, and background on the key works and buildings you’ll see.
Itinerary Design
03
Your finished itinerary arrives as a polished, easy-to-use guide, with time for one round of revisions. You can also add a private pre-departure lecture on the art and architecture of your destinations. You make your own reservations using my recommendations, keeping full control of your plans.
Before You Go
MEET KARYN
An educator’s approach to travel
I’ve spent my life falling in love with art and the places that made it. With 26 years of teaching the Humanities and 18 tours leading students through Europe, I help travelers move beyond surface-level sightseeing toward a deeper understanding of a place. Today I bring that same insight to travelers, and share it in art history lectures for lifelong learners, travel groups and private audiences.
My favorite moment on any trip? When you stop seeing “just another painting” and start seeing the story behind it because art, at its heart, is a mirror of the human experience.
“Karyn planned every detail of our 14 days in Italy, from beautiful hotel and unforgettable restaurants to museum guides that brought the art to life. We saw Italy in a way we never could have on our own.”
